Ancient spiritual practices for our liminal times

The Soul’s Slow Ripening: 12 Celtic Practices for Seeking the Sacred by Christine Valters Painter is a collection of spiritual practices inspired by the Irish monastic tradition. This book has proven a gentle companion as I have sought to lead during the pandemic. Each chapter presents a single practice with reflections, lectio, a contemplative photography prompt, and poetry. Chapters can be dived into in any order and read slowly over a week as part of devotions. Painter includes discussion about when we go through liminal times in life and feel like we are wandering, making this volume relevant for life during the pandemic.

I just finished a two-week morning prayer cycle for an online service using this book as the basis for each day, and it let all of us joined together enjoy a virtual Irish pilgrimage.
