Resources for Lent 2021

Dream up new possibilities for Lent 2021
by Emily McQuillan | February 5, 2021

When the pandemic started last year during Lent, I’m sure many of us could have barely guessed that a year later we’d be entering another Lenten season under the shadow of COVID-19. Yet, here we are. This time around, we also face a very different Ash Wednesday.

To help you dream up possibilities in your community, we have collected a list of resources recommended by pastors and churches. These resources are ideal for keeping Lent at-home and safely online.

At-Home Ash Wednesday

Old Lutheran has a number of at-home resources like a small ashes-to-go kit and even Ash Wednesday temporary tattoos.

Pastor Sara Gorman came up with an easily adaptable way to make ashes to go for her community.

Meaningful Connection Through Social Media

Lent Photo a Day hosts a yearly spiritual practice of taking contemplative photos throughout Lent based around a daily theme. Photos can be posted over social media and tagged, allowing you to connect with others.

Spirited Fun

Lent Madness proves that the Lenten season can be fun and creative with a yearly bracket-style tournament that pits saints against one another. Participants learn about Christian history and get to vote for their favorites to see who will make it to the end and win the golden halo.

Lenten Carbon Fast

Climate Caretakers is hosting a carbon fast for Lent. Their site has an email subscription that provides action steps, prayers, and prompts to support your fast.

Lent in a Bag

Lent in a Bag, from Building Faith, is a simple devotional practices that can be done by families at home or as part of personal Lenten devotions.

Repentance from White Supremacy

Christ Have Mercy is a liturgical series from the Disrupt Worship Project that offers a chance to spend this Lenten season in repentance from white supremacy.

Family Devotions

Break the Chains from the Salt Project is a creative devotional resource for families, groups, and churches.
