What You Will Learn

The needs around how we think about and talk through environmental issues have never been more pronounced. From up-to-date content to a better understanding of local and global issues, what we don’t know has real consequences. These three workshops are a chance to change that. With ecotheology resources, enviroSTEM activities, common ground group discussion techniques around faith and science, and service learning projects, you’ll gain the skills and techniques to lead in ways that really matter.

The breakouts in the course were so meaningful.
To listen to others and to be listened to was so nice.

Practice Justice

Without chances to roll up our sleeves and actually do the work, justice can quickly become another buzzword. We believe in it, of course, but where is the fruit? How are we practicing justice? Good news: there’s an entire planet outside each of our doors and we’re responsible for it. From access to clean drinking water to a changing climate, there is so much that isn’t just. Let’s start there.

Workshop Agenda

Heidi Ferris
Heidi Ferris, enviroSTEM Expert &
Founder of Growing Green Hearts, LLC

Heidi Ferris helps people put themselves inside our natural world of interconnected systems by focusing on hope and play. As an environmental educator, teacher-trainer, community connector, and author of six children’s books and multiple curriculum, Heidi often works with congregations empowering leaders and intergenerational groups for climate resiliency and water justice. She started Growing Green Hearts, LLC in 2012 with the goal of increasing climate literacy for communities through enviroSTEM (environmental problem-solving) and wonderment. Growing Green Hearts serves faith communities, school districts, childcare centers, watershed districts, and libraries. Nature is God’s abundant love – tangible in the air we breathe, water we drink, pollinator habitat we plant, and the energy savings we put in place. Heidi lives near the Mississippi River in the metro area of Minneapolis, is a proud clergy spouse, mother of two, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership.
